January has come and gone

This month was a little quieter but...
  • Nick started at his new daycare at my school. I love having him there!
  • We had dinner at a friend's house
  • Nick had a playdate at Cooper's house
  • I went to see Les Miserables (loved it!)
  • I babysat Nick's pal Harrison.
  • We had the triple birthday in Courtice. So much fun!
  • I went to a retirement party for a fabulous E.A. at my school.
  • We had a outing to Morty's with our indoor soccer team.

Not bad for a rather blah month. January has never been my favourite. Bring on February! The month of hearts and home renovations. :)

It's a new TV!!

So we bought a treadmill. You knew that. Then we decided that we would like a tv in the basement to help pass the time. So our old one is going down there and we bought a new one for our family room. A 60 inch panasonic beauty.

That treadmill purchase is getting more expensive daily :)

Ps: That's two purchases in one month. Go us! Anyone else buying anything fun?

This is garbage?!

Call me a garbage picker but LOOK what I found on my way to work today. It works perfectly and I gave it a good scrub when I got home. Free? Yes please!

Now we have extra seating for playdate mornings :)

A new basement addition

Look what we bought:

I tried it out last night! We are finding it really hard to get to the gym with a toddler. The gym daycare is not always open and dinner time is too busy as it is. We were going to the gym mainly to use the cardio machines anyways. Now we have a treadmill and a stationary bike.

We may have a small basement but we are managing to fit a treadmill, washing machine, dryer, queen sized bed, chest freezer, a bunch of totes and our wine collection. Not too bad!

Ps: Having the treadmill in the basement is of course giving Dan a reason to buy a new tv so that our old one can go down there. Stay tuned...

Step 1: Living Renovation

Step 1: Sell Hutch.

I bought the hutch from a co-worker for 50 bucks. It was perfect for our old house because it gave us storage for wine glasses, booze, fancier serving dishes etc. It looks silly small in our current living room and it is not the colour we want. Plus we want to just get a buffet.

I put it on kijiji and within the hour it was sold. I asked for 60.00 and the lady said she would pay an extra 10.00 if we would deliver it. SCORE!

To-do List:

  • Sell hutch
  • Paint room
  • New baseboards
  • Paint window trim
  • Window coverings (of some sort)
  • Hardwood
  • Replace all light switch plates and outlet covers
  • Install a new light fixture
  • Buy buffet
  • Re-hang wall mirror
  • Buy furniture (arm chairs maybe and a table) for the actual living room section of the room
  • Buy a dining room set

I better start saving!

A first for Nick

Well it finally happened. At almost 17 months old Nick fell asleep eating in his highchair.

It's hard work eating lunch!

It's back to work tomorrow after a great 2 weeks of holidays! I hope I can get out of bed on time!

Living Room Renovation: Before Photos

Our project this year is to renovate our living room. It is the first room that you see as you enter our house and right now it houses a piano that isn't even ours, some toys, a plant, a bunch of wine and our soccer balls. Interesting combination eh?

Here's the view from the kitchen:

Here's the view from the front foyer:

The trim and baseboards need upgrading. They will be replaced with bright white ones.

We are about to start seriously shopping for hardwood. Yes that beige carpet has got to go!

We are thinking about getting bamboo or walnut wood. Something medium in colour.

This house was built in the 90's but you would think that it was built in the 80's with some of these gems:

Floral chandelier anyone? Or how about brass switch plates?

You'll notice in the pictures that the room is painted toothpaste green. I envision it to be grey or taupe. I REALLY want to paint it grey but I have yet to convince the hubby

Lastly we will be buying an actual non-hand me down adult dining room set. This hutch I bought off of a co-worker for 50 bucks. It has done it's job but we would like to buy a long buffet in a darker wood. We already have a long mirror that will go back on the wall once everything is complete.

I'll update as we go. I can't wait to rip up that carpet! Stay tuned :)

Wine it up!

New Years Eve was fun!

We hosted a wine and cheese party at our house. I forgot to take a picture of the cheese but Dan did the shopping so you can imagine how much there was. We had havarti, 3 types of goat cheese, 2 types of swiss, stripy jack, brie and babybels.

And for the wine...

Left to Right: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo (All from Magnotta Winery in Cambridge.)The next three were wine that we made at Simply Fine Wine. These included Amarone, Sangiovese and Gewurtraminer. The last one was an ice wine made by Lakeview Cellars that is still chilling in our fridge since we were too full on wine and cheese to crack open another bottle.

Happy 2013! What did everyone do?

Snow walk!

Yesterday we had some family time in the park. Nick loves being pulled around in his sled and attempting to walk in the snow.

Here he is exploring...

Kaboom!

After playing in the snow (yes I did a snow angel) we had to have some hot chocolate of course

Love these family times.

End of a Month, End of a Year

And what a great month it has been!
  • We went to an annual Christmas open-house at a friend's house.
  • We played in a charity soccer tournament.
  • We were all sick.. again. I am hoping this Winter is more forgiving.
  • I had my annual cookie exchange with the ladies.
  • Friends came over for eggnog and pie and Backyardigans :)
  • We got and decorated our Christmas tree. Nicest tree we have had yet!
  • We shopped and wrapped and shopped some more.
  • I went to my staff Christmas party.
  • We went to The Wonders of Winter at Waterloo Park. (Until we were chased back to the car by rain!)
  • I visited with a friend on her birthday.
  • We had our monthly play date at Amelia's house.
  • I went out for Christmas dinner with some teaching friends. (We've done this for 6 years now!)
  • We had a wonderful Christmas (despite Nick being sick) in Kingston. We got to attend a Christmas gathering with high school friends, have 2 delicious turkey dinners, and some sledding fun with Nick and his two oldest cousins. I also visited with two girlfriends.
  • We did some shopping with our gift cards from Christmas.
  • We ended the year with a wine and cheese party at our house
