July!

I love summer holidays! Nick went to daycare a few days a week and was home with me a few days.
We kept busy!
  • We went to Stratford on Canada Day. We walked, window shopped, checked out the festival and the Shakespearean gardens.
  • Nick and I "watched" the first half of one of Dan's soccer games.
  • Dan and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary.
  • Nick started swimming lessons. He loves every minute of it!
  • We had lots of fun playdates with a variety of friends.
  • We frequented many parks, splash pads and checked out the animals at Waterloo Park and St. Jacob's Market.
  • I bottled some wine for my Dad and Marg. I got them hooked on the home made gewurztraminer!
  • I went out for Indian with Anne-Marie... yum!
  • My friend Michelle and I went out for coffee and/or lunch on Thursdays. It's nice to do shop talk from the comfort of a coffee shop :)
  • We had the G's over for dinner and tried out a new boardgame. A very loooong board game!
  • We travelled to Kingston and watch Dan's parents gig!
  • We visited with my Nana. It was so nice to see her with Nicholas. He still says "Nana train" whenever he sees a train.
  • We went to Montreal for a few days for a family vacation. I love Old Montreal!
  • Tina came to visit and we went to a baby shower for a soccer friend. Baby coming end of Aug!
  • I had a coffee date with a teaching friend. Her son is also in Nick's class!
  • We did lots of shopping and took care of summer errands.

I wonder what August has in store for us. A few birthdays and a wedding perhaps?! :)

The things I do for my students!

Summer vacation is about re-charging batteries and preparing for the upcoming school year. I constantly think about school, what I will change and what works well. I just do it from the comfort of my pajamas!

But here's something I have to admit that I have never done. But they were getting stinky and gross. The mom in me couldn't handle it any longer...

Yep. I washed lego. 5 loads through the dishwasher on sanitize mode. My JK's were really into lego last year and I have them all back this year so I thought it was an important thing to do. Time consuming though!

I have made myself a promise that I am only going into my classroom to set up an organize the last week of summer. I want to spend as much time with Dan and Nicholas that I can. After all, there are only 5 weeks left! Yikes!

Tornado Warning?

I've been hearing a lot about tornado warnings today. I was thinking that yet again people are over reacting. Then I came home from a play date to this:

I guess it is pretty windy!

Stuffed Peppers

One of my summer goals is to try out recipes since I have the time for it. I have always wanted to try out stuffed peppers so I gave it a whirl last night.

Before

After

We had it with bbq'd turkey breast

These were fairly easy to make... just required prep time to do all the chopping. A few tweaks I recommend:
  1. Cook for longer then the recommended time. The recipe I followed said 15-20 minutes but the peppers could have used another 10 minutes.
  2. Put cheese in the actual mixture to help hold them together.
  3. Add a bit more seasoning. The only spices the recipe called for were salt and pepper.
  4. Dan says meat would have been a nice addition. But he likes meat in EVERTHING!

This is for you D!

The son of good friends of ours was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. He is responding to treatments but will inevitably lose his hair in the next while. Dan and I were trying to figure out how to help out but day to day stuff was being covered by family and neighbours. So Dan shaved his head! This is the shortest he has ever gone. This is for you D! It's cool to have a shaved head!

Victoria Park Fun!

Nicholas and his pal Harrison had so much fun at Victoria Park this morning. They splashed, they ate and they gave me a heart attack going down a GIGANTIC slide. Great times with great friends!

Didn't make it home before passing out!

Target find of the day

I took advantage of yet another rainy morning and browsed around Target. There is some cute decor and household items but other than that I wasn't really blown away. I did buy a couple of small things including this hilarious and very useful find:

Chip bag clips in the shape of a pickle? Yes please! The set of two was a whopping 50 cents.

Pinterest wins again!

This is a simple idea and Nick loved it! His daycare did this so I thought I would give it a try. All you need is a freezer bag, paint (I used finger paint that I already had) and some tape. I thought two colours swirling together would look cool so I chose yellow and green and poured them in the bag. After making sure it is sealed tightly, tape the bag to a window or door. After this picture was taken I taped it down tighter as Nick tried to pull it off! Then watch as your drawing pushes the paint around and it leaves an imprint. Nick likes to smack it.

Happy Anniversary to us!

Dan and I celebrated our 4th anniversary yesterday! We went out for a lovely dinner at Jake & Humphrey's in New Hamburg. It was yummy and quaint. They didn't serve espresso there so we found a good solution to that problem.

We tried it out last night of course and it works like a charm. We had it with a piece of peach pie! Yum-o!

Neigh!

Nick and I had a super day today! We went to Walmart this morning in St. Jacobs and then went to look at the animals at the market. He was not a fan of the cow and the goats. He tolerated the roosters but LOVED the horse. He was still waving at it when it was long out of view.

You proud Gram?

June, mixed weather June!

What a weird month it has been for weather. I was never sure if I should be putting on sun screen or a jacket.

We still kept busy despite the weird weather:
  • I hit up some garage sales and got stuff for Nicholas and my students. I never seem to buy for myself anymore!
  • We bbq'd with friends.
  • I attended my first Stella a Dot party and bought this. I have already worn it a few times!
  • I went to see The Great Gatsby. Leo still has it!
  • Dan, Nicholas and I went to Greek Fest. Opa!
  • We spent Father's Day weekend in Kingston. We swam, we ate, we visited!
  • We visited with friends and ate some yummy rhubarb loaf. Gotta love Pinterest recipes!
  • Nick had his monthly playdate, this time at Harry's house.
  • My Daddy celebrated the big 6-4!
  • We visited with friends and their kiddos on the long weekend.
  • Nick got his 2nd haircut and was NOT impressed!
  • School ended for me! I celebrated by having lunch with the Kindergarten division, dinner with some old teaching friends of mine and of course the school staff party. Bring on summer holidays!
